Wine from around the world

The wine market today is split in two general segments: Old World Wine and New World Wine.

Why these two segments were originally chosen is not particularly clear, but it is generally accepted to be because the wine markets in Europe were considered front runners commercially as well as in terms of establishing today’s oenological standards.

Old World Wines are normally defined to come from France, Italy, Spain, Germany and many other countries in Europe.

New World Wines are defined to come from i.e. the USA (mainly California), Chile, Argentina, South Africa or Australia

There are, however, more regions emerging such as Georgia, Syria, Tunisia that will continue to expand the diversity of the wine markets.
